Chapter Input for October 08 Issue of Shipmate

Greetings citizens of the Nutmeg State!

Once again, the Chapter news this month is rather sparse.  I guess everyone is busy enjoying their “staycations” this year.  Lord knows, with the price of gasoline these days, a lot of us are opting for staycations vice the good old vacations of yesteryear!  In any event, there is not much in the way of news to pass along.

Our next scheduled event will be our annual Connecticut Naval Academy Candidate Meeting to be held in November in Hartford.  As I have said many times in the past, this is always a pleasant meeting to attend, and provides us with the opportunity to interact with the candidates for entering the Naval Academy in the Class of 2013.  I never cease to be amazed at the caliber of young men and women who are competing to enter our Alma Mater in this day and age.  They certainly do justice to the description “cream of the crop,” oft times applied to the members of the Brigade of Midshipmen.  The particulars of this meeting, i.e. location, menu, time, etc. are not nailed down at the time of this writing.  Be sure and check our Chapter website at: www.usna.com/Chapters/US/Conn for the details of this and all Chapter happenings and events.

I see that the Annual College Edition of Sports Illustrated (SI) picks the NAVY football team to finish this season with a 7 -5 record and play UCONN in the First Annual Congressional Bowl in Washington D.C.  SI also picks Notre Dame to finish with a 7 – 5 record.  Let’s just hope that one of our seven wins includes a victory over Notre Dame!!  As well as ARMY………..And AIR FORCE!!  You just have to love that Commander in Chief’s Trophy!!
