First let me thank Ray Boyd ’73 for his leadership as our outgoing Chapter President.  And on the occasion of my first chapter news input as the incoming Comms for the Connecticut Chapter, I want to thank Dave Boyd ’59 for his years of service to the Chapter and chapter inputs too numerous to count.  What a guy!

At the same time we welcome Tom Hodgson ’83 as our new Chapter President.  Last month Dave announced all the new chapter appointments, but we are still in the search mode for a new Program Chairman.  If you are interested contact Tom; he will be soliciting recommendations from many of you.

In SHIPMATE I’m finding that new news is old news.  The Connecticut Chapter Annual Admissions Dinner was held on 20 November at the Hartford Armory.  Attending were candidates, their families, midshipmen exchange students at the Coast Guard Academy, alumni and guests.  LT John Jones, the Field Diversity Officer for the Candidate Guidance Office spoke about the admissions process.  This is perhaps our most important meeting of the year, as we are providing a positive impact on prospective candidates who still have options in their college selection.

Look for an e-mail announcement for our next meeting date and location.  The Board is always interested in suggestions from Connecticut alumni for program suggestions.

Note that our preferred method of communication with Connecticut alumni is by e-mail.  There are about 900 Navy graduates from Connecticut listed in the www.usna.com alumni database.  Of those about one third do not list their e-mail addresses and many listed are not current.  Please log into www.usna.com and update your profile.  Log in, click on My Community, then My Profile.  To the right, click on Address and Contact Information.  Be sure to click Update for each change.

I would like to close by letting our Connecticut alumni, who read this column but have not been active in our meetings and events, know that you will not be left alone for long.  By profession I am a networker of sorts and a “contact detective.”  In the coming months we will use the improved databases of the Alumni Association and iSABRD to find you and solicit your more frequent participation.  Tom has made this a priority for his first year as our President.  You have a lot to offer to the rest of us, and we will ask you to join your shipmates for mutual support in uncertain times.

GO NAVY!

Bob Musselman, ‘72
