Happy New Year to one and all!  Once again, we have embarked on a brand new year with all of us steadfastly dedicated to losing weight and exercising more.  We’ll see just how long that lasts!  I should share with you that my New Years resolution last year was to make no more New Years resolutions!  This year, for the first time ever, I am doing well in keeping my resolutions!  The New Year brings with it, a number of changes within the Chapter.  Effective the first of January, a new slate of officers began serving in their new positions.  The new Officers are:

     President:  Tom Hodgson, ‘83
     Vice President:  Dori Freer, 82
     Secretary:  Alan Judelson, ‘66
Treasurer:  Dori ‘82 and Bob Freer, ‘81
     Communications Director:  Bob Musselman, ‘72
Program Chairman:  Position not filled at press time.

Our final event of 2008 was our annual Admissions Meeting held at the Armory in Hartford.  We were indeed fortunate to have Lt John Jones, USN, Field Diversity Officer for Region One in the Candidate Guidance Officer as our speaker.  This meeting was not only enjoyable because it allowed us the opportunity to mingle with and tell “sea stories” to the candidates of the Class of 2013, it was also immensely useful to the candidates and their parents/guardians by providing them with the opportunity to ask questions and get answers “directly from the horse’s mouth,” so to speak.  Additional details on this meeting will be forthcoming in next month’s column.

A Board of Director’s Meeting was held on November 8, 2008, wherein a number of items of Chapter business were addressed.  A review of the action items assigned during this meeting will be reviewed during another meeting to be held (and possibly already held as you read this) early in 2009.  Details of both meetings, as they pertain to all chapter members, will likewise be forthcoming in next month’s column.
The NAVY football team has already rolled over ARMY and, as you read this, will have completed its participation in the Eagle Bank Bowl in Washington, D.C.   Hopefully we were able to beat WAKE FOREST in the bowl game as we did earlier in the season.  If not, we can still take great pride in NAVY’s regular season performance.  There is much to be proud of.   NAVY completed an 8-4 season, retained the Commander-in-Chiefs Trophy (ARMY and AIR FORCE may never see the trophy again!!) and went to its sixth successive Bowl Game.  A splendid season indeed!

This is my final column for the Chapter.  I have very much enjoyed writing the inputs over the years.  Bob Musselman, ‘72 will write the columns for the next couple of years as he assumes his duties as Communications Director.
BEAT ARMY!

Dave Boyd, ‘59
